The Quantum NXT™ ("Electric Servo Pump") is a revolutionary concept that incorporates the core "direct servo" technology first used by NASA for the Space Shuttle programme. It replaces old-fashioned hydraulic cylinders with new, highly compact, efficient, reliable and continuously controllable servo linear actuators in the Quantum NXT™. The same type of actuators are now used in many high-end machine tools and presses, replacing inefficient hydraulic systems.

QUANTUM NXT™

The future of waterjet pump technology.

The Quantum NXT™ waterjet pump is a revolutionary concept in waterjet cutting. It contains a servo motor that directly surrounds a heavy duty precision ball screw. The ball screw directly houses the ceramic pistons that reciprocate to create the pumping action, much like a hydraulic cylinder in a conventional waterjet pump.

The stepless control of the servo motor and the precision of the ball screw allow extremely precise control over the output pressure and volume of water displaced, as well as eliminating deadhead pressure spikes. This stepless control gives the operator the ability to select virtually any pressure and flow rate from zero to full capacity.

Key features of the Quantum NXT™ waterjet pump range

Predictive diagnostics

High-tech sensors, both on the oil and water circuits, enable communication with the pump. This information, combined with servo-drive technology, is fed into a computer that has incorporated more than 30 years of waterjet experience to develop algorithms that accurately predict when maintenance is required, minimising unplanned downtime. Thanks to the integrated router, the pump is visible online to a technician who can perform live troubleshooting.

Designed for efficiency

Patented direct-drive servo technology is up to 60% more efficient than a typical hydraulic intensifier. Superior pressure control also maintains constant pressure during cutting, resulting in smoother edges and less spent garnet for each cut.

Reduced maintenance

Compared to direct drive pumps, the Quantum NXT requires less maintenance. This is due to the speed of the plunger when moving back and forth. Its superior design with visual diagnostics allows easy, quick and ergonomic access to the pump when maintenance is required. In addition, typical hydraulic intensifiers have pressure spikes of 10% or more when the cutting head opens and closes, which significantly reduces the life of the HP pipes and fittings.

The ESP not only significantly reduces power consumption, but also uses far less cooling water than conventional hydraulic pressure intensifiers. Combined with the fact that our pumps have minimal oil consumption compared to competitive products, this makes it the best pump available for the environment.

The same type of actuators are now used in many high-end machine tools and presses, replacing inefficient hydraulic systems. Similarly, Quantum NXT™ is the first waterjet pump manufacturer to use "direct servo" technology in an ultra-high pressure waterjet pump and has developed patented designs to incorporate the core technology into the most efficient, reliable and controllable ultra-high pressure (UHP) waterjet cutting pump.

The Quantum NXT™ is the most environmentally friendly, has the least impact on global warming and has the smallest carbon footprint of any waterjet cutting pump on the market.

The high level of efficiency achieved by the Quantum NXT™ drastically reduces energy consumption and water demand. For example, a typical company running a single-head waterjet cutting machine with the Quantum NXT™ saves approximately 32,000 kW-hours per year on a single shift, saves approximately $6,080/year in electricity costs and reduces harmful CO2 greenhouse gases by a staggering 20 tonnes/year. There are also significant savings in water consumption due to increased efficiency. For the same example, savings of approximately 290,000 gallons/year can be achieved, resulting in savings of approximately $3,019/year.
